Join us in raising #awareness about the importance of respecting #privacy and #keepingdatasecure! #Dataprivacy might seem abstract, but it couldn’t be more personal. You generate lots of data every time you access the internet, and sometimes, when you don’t – your home address, health records, and Social Security are all pieces of data. While you can’t control the fact that your data is collected, you can take charge of how and with whom you share data with in many cases. Your data is worth a lot of money to many different people, businesses, and organizations, but we often don’t value our own data story as much as they do. We can all be more aware of who we share our data with and what we expect in return. Fortunately, there are a few simple, repeatable behaviors you can adopt. There’s an old Silicon Valley adage that if you’re not paying for it, you aren’t the customer, you’re the product. In many cases, this proves true. To be more accurate, your data is the product. Who’s buying? Advertisers, mostly, but also others like software developers. You and your data make up a slice of this multibillion bonanza. In December, the 24-25 #SouthCentralRIC budget was presented to the @Broome-TiogaBOCES Board of Education. We’re excited to share that in the upcoming year there will be significant enhancements to our Data Security and Privacy service, sunsetting support for Powerschool and eSchoolPlus, additional cloud hosting options, as well as increased automation and efficiencies in many of our services. #customerfocused #schoolsupport #edtech #innovation #collaboration

Each year, the #SouthCentralRIC is required to submit a regional technology plan to NYS Education Dept. in #collaboration with each of our 3 local BOCES. Technical and field staff are gathered at the #SouthCentralRIC today for an interest-based #workshop on #PowerShell, a scripting language and command-line shell that helps users automate tasks, manage systems and perform various operations. Staff will receive #interactiveinstruction as well as #handsonlearning. Staff expressed so much interest in this class that a second workshop will be offered in January! About a quarter of our staff will complete this training. #edtech #continuouslearning #innovation

Since July, the #SouthCentralRIC has been busy working on refreshing our #purposestatement and #values with the help of Blue Beyond Consulting. We had about 150 participants involved in the process and are very excited to almost have a final product. Each summer, the #southcentralRIC data integration team partners with #schooldistricts on planned #dataintegrations to prepare for the #startofschool. Once school resumes, the integration team works closely with the Service Desk to address unplanned integration needs. Currently, the team is averaging a 4-week turnaround for each of the 300+ requests submitted since 7/15. #edtech #teamwork #schoolsupport

The #SouthCentralRIC had a very busy and productive start to the #2324schoolyear. In September, staff handled over 3,000 #supportcalls and closed over 17,000 #supporttickets. In addition to calls and tickets, our users viewed our public-facing #knowledgebase content over 4,100 times. Many other support groups spent a significant amount of time supporting the dozens of mission critical services we deliver to our component school districts on a daily basis. Many thanks to all our outstanding #schoolsupport staff for helping our users get through another busy September. #edtech #teamwork #collaboration
